STEPHEN MITCHELL WINS THE STEPHEN SUTTON AWARD

St. James’s Place Wealth Management Partner Stephen Mitchell has received national recognition for his work as a member of the SJP Leeds Foundation committee. Stephen has worked tirelessly along with his committee colleagues to raise substantial funds for the SJP Foundation which then go back into the local community via grant distribution.

At the recent Annual Company Meeting in London Stephen was recognised with the coveted SJP Foundation Award – now re-named the Stephen Sutton Award – to honour his dedication to the Foundation in Leeds over the last four years.

Stephen was recognised not just for his dedication as a Foundation representative but for his work in establishing the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards.  These recognise and reward children and young people in the local area and have been so successful that they have now been replicated in the Midlands.

Since the first event in 2011, Stephen and the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards team have raised in excess of £150,000 for the Foundation.

He received the Stephen Sutton Award at the ACM from Stephen’s mother, Jane, who made a short and emotional speech.  Managing Director Ian Gascoigne told the 02 audience: “Such was the impact of Stephen Sutton on us all at St. James’s Place that we decided to permanently name our own Foundation Award after him”.

Stephen Mitchell, for whom the Award came as a complete surprise accepted his beautiful Asprey trophy in front of 5,000 people. “ I feel completely humbled to have received this Award – but I could not have done it without the help and support of my fellow committee members. We are particularly excited about the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards and exceptionally proud to have originated the idea. We are seeing the annual ceremony flourish beyond our expectations and we have amazing plans in place for the 2015 Dinner taking place on 16th October at New Dock Hall, Leeds”.
