PACT helps boost nominations for Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2017
PACT, Sheffield based Children’s Charity for the Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia, has been hosting the Nominations Box for Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards (YCCA) at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital over recent weeks, which has yielded significant results for both the Charity and the Awards.
YCCA is truly unique event that combines honouring and recognising courageous young people in Yorkshire with raising funds for St. James’s Place Foundation. Originally launched in 2011, the annual awards dinner is a highlight of the Yorkshire social calendar as well as a significant annual fundraiser and flagship event for the Foundation. This year’s Awards Ceremony takes place at New Dock Hall in Leeds on Friday October 13th and is to be compered for the 4th year running by BBC Breakfast’s Steph McGovern and attended by event Ambassadors The Chuckle Brothers and Jack Carroll.
PACT is a Group Award nominee at this year’s YCCA and been promoting their nomination amongst their supporters as well as to visitors to the Hospital. The Group Award is decided by public vote and PACT is competing against two other Yorkshire based Charities to win the prestigious title.
PACT was originally set up by a group of parents to offer support through devastating times and has been supporting families with very serious health conditions for 40 years. Funded by parents, families and friends as well as by the children who are receiving treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, the charity stands to benefit from the YCCA Group Nomination.
In its 40th anniversary year the building of a new PACT and Westfield Health Oncology and Haematology Centre has been achieved. Along with Westfield Health they have raised over £670,000 for this much needed new outpatient and day care facility with the rebuild scheduled to start later this year.
Speaking on behalf of PACT Sheila McGovern, Chair, said:
“We have been nominated for the Group Award by Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards and we are both very proud and touched by this recognition which is as a result of all the hard work of our PACT families, friends and supporters. All of this makes us what we are today.
In the new main entrance “the Hub” at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital there is the YCCA Nominations Box that draws attention to the Awards and informs people how to get involved.
Every day in this hospital we see children who amaze and astound us with their courage and fortitude so please pick up a leaflet or go on line and nominate that special child that you know for an individual Award in recognition of their bravery, courage and achievement,
You can also vote for us at PACT and help us to keep raising awareness of our charity and the increasingly important role we play in the community”.
Individual nominations are open until Friday 11th August and can be made online at
