Nidderdale Children’s Resource Centre takes delivery of brand new Sunshine Coach courtesy of St. James’s Place Foundation

Friday 21st July was a red letter day at Nidderdale Children’s Resource Centre in Killinghall, Harrogate, as they received the keys to a brand new Variety Sunshine Coach, generously donated by the St James’s Place Foundation.

The Centre provides valuable resources and support for children with physical and learning disabilities. The specially adapted Variety Coach will replace a 9 year old minibus enabling the Centre to expand their services and provide the children, young people and families they support with a wider range of experiences and opportunities.

Present for Variety was Charlotte Farrington, Regional Development Manager who works tirelessly with Charitable Foundations to obtain grants and funding to improve the lives of children and young adults in the Yorkshire region.

Handing over the keys to the Sunshine Coach were representatives of the St. James’s Place Foundation including Stephen Mitchell, Head of the Leeds Foundation office, who commented:

“We are delighted to support ‘Variety’ by providing a brand new Sunshine Coach to Nidderdale Children’s Resource Centre. The main focus of the St. James’s Place Foundation is on helping children and young people who have special needs or are disadvantaged. The Foundation also supports the hospice movement, charities in aid of cancer and, more recently, helping people of all ages with mental health issues.

The St. James’s Place Foundation has pledged £340,000 over the next three years to part fund up to 20 more life changing coaches to special needs schools across the UK and we hope these will provide many years of happy motoring and activities to enrich pupils’ lives. This follows on from our original support of ‘Variety’, when we funded 17 Sunshine Coaches between 2002 and 2005.”

On 30th October this year the St. James’s Place Foundation will hold their annual Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards at New Dock Hall in Leeds. This is a unique event that combines honouring and recognising courageous young people in Yorkshire with raising funds for St. James’s Place Foundation. Do you know any young people who deserve to be recognised for their achievements, often in the face of adversity and illness? Nominations for the Awards are currently open until 11th August. The Nominations Box was at the handover on Friday to raise awareness of the event and invite nominations are open until 11 August. These can be made online at
