Chuckle Brothers launch the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2014
Headingley Experience played host to the many friends, sponsors, supporters and previous winners of The Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards (YCCA) last week as the official launch of the 2014 event got underway.
Entertaining the children, as well as the adults, the Chuckle Brothers were on hand to help headline sponsor David Richmond, Chairman of Arrow Cars cut the ribbon and declare the nominations open for this year’s event. The St. James’s Place Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2014, in association with Arrow Cars, will be held at New Dock Hall, Leeds on Friday 10th October and are once again to be presented by Steph McGovern, BBC Breakfast Journalist.
The Chuckle Brothers (Paul and Barry) had this to say as they take on their new role this year as YCCA Ambassadors: “There are no words that can express the bravery of these children more than the way they lead their lives. That says it all. Love and good luck to them all. We are all very proud of them”.
A new Group Award was also launched. Sponsored by Prism IT Solutions, the new category is subject to an online public vote and three groups are in the running. Jessie’s Fund, Prism Youth Project and Able2 Pontefract Special Olympics are all past recipients of grant funding from the St. James’s Place Foundation.
Welcoming guests Stephen Mitchell, Principal of Mitchell Wealth Management and representative of the St. James’s Place Foundation Committee for their Leeds office, thanked everybody for attending and said:
“I have so many people to thank on behalf of The Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards. Our annual event is now a major fundraiser in Yorkshire and through it we get the chance to honour some of the region’s most deserving and high achieving youngsters. We are able to showcase their efforts and accomplishments in sport, fund raising, caring, bravery and outstanding achievement. Without the support we receive from our sponsors, ambassadors and friends it would not be possible to stage our event. I am particularly pleased to thank David Richmond of Arrow Cars and also St. James’s Place Wealth Management for their headline sponsorship this year”.
There was a real party atmosphere as guests sampled smoothies and chocolate brownies from Filmore & Union and were entertained by a cocktail making display from Zest Mixology. Past award winner Bethany Hare, an accomplished vocalist, sang from her latest repertoire of contemporary songs. Proceedings were concluded when around 30 past winners accompanied by Charlotte Williams, The Leeds Children’s Mayor, released hundreds of balloons skywards.
The launch party was kindly funded jointly by Headingley Experience, Gary Hetherington Chief Executive of Leeds Rhinos, and ‘Secret Millionaire’ Terry George and was held in the prestigious Taverner’s Suite. Media partners, Yorkshire Post newspapers, were represented by Managing Director, Helen Oldham, who lends her personal support and that of the Group publications to YCCA.
